Cornerstone for Sustainable Development in Turbulent Times?
Thursday, December 6th, 6 pm
Location: American University of Beirut (AUB), Charles W. Hostler Student Center
Welcome address by H.E. Dr. Georg Birgelen, Ambassador of Germany to Lebanon.
Increasing pressures on water, energy and food security pose fundamental challenges to economic and human development in the Arab world.
The panel discussion will highlight the challenges ahead and how integrated solutions derived from the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus can mitigate pressures and induce sustainable development in the MENA region.
The WEF Nexus holds not just technical opportunities for the MENA region but it requires particular governance shifts to increase resources efficiency policies. At the same time, the panel discussion will bring together Arab and German researchers to identify opportunities and gaps for scientific research collaboration between Germany and the Arab world to jointly address among the most essential challenges of the Arab world in the 21st century.
The event will be followed by a buffet reception.
It is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
